South Baldwin Regional Medical Center Wins National Top Performer Award
December 8, 2011 – South Baldwin Regional Medical Center is proud to announce that Press Ganey Associates, Inc., has named it a 2011 Summit Award® winner. Press Ganey currently partners with more than 10,000 health care facilities —including 50% of all U.S. hospitals — to measure and improve quality of care.
The Summit Award recognizes top-performing facilities that sustain the highest level of core measure performance for three consecutive years. The Press Ganey Summit Award is the health care performance improvement industry’s most coveted symbol of achievement bestowed annually. South Baldwin Regional Medical Center is one of 98 organizations to receive this prestigious honor in 2011, and one of eleven to receive it for achieving and sustaining excellence in core measures performance.
Robert Draughon, Press Ganey’s CEO noted, "We are proud to partner with South Baldwin Regional. South Baldwin Regional Medical Center innovative approach to improving clinical processes and outcomes helps to advance the quality of health care in South Baldwin and the surrounding communities.”
According to Margaret Roley, Chief Nursing Officer of SBRMC, the award represents important recognition within the industry of its efforts. “As an organization that adopted a total quality management philosophy, it is gratifying to see that our efforts have resulted in the level of patient satisfaction performance that merits this kind of recognition,” Roley stated. Sharon Dunkin, Director of Quality Management added, “South Baldwin Regional measures our clinical core measure performance based on scores for key core measures that affect patients’ clinical outcomes. Core measures are a set of national quality performance measures that indicate the performance of our physicians and nurses in the care of our patients and represent evidence based medicine practices that are linked to reimbursement as part of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Value-Based Purchasing and the pay for performance programs of many other payers. At South Baldwin Regional, we examine quality performance concurrent with each patient’s stay in the hospital thus making changes in their care, as needed, before the patient is discharged. There are currently 58 general medical and surgical core measures with 170 distinct data elements that we monitor on a daily basis. Our physicians and nurses take pride in knowing we are doing the right thing for each patient. It is with great honor to be recognized for our outcomes by such a prestigious leader in performance improvement.”
