Robotic-Assisted Joint Replacement
Robotic-assisted technology for partial-knee and total-hip joint replacement
If you are one of the millions of Americans who suffers with the pain of degenerative joint disease, you understand the tremendous impact it can have on a person’s quality of life. Not only must you cope with chronic stiffness, swelling and soreness in your joint, but also with the inability to participate in activities you enjoy.
Whether it’s playing golf or tennis, gardening, long walks – or just being able to go up and down stairs without pain – having the freedom to live the life you want may still be possible.
Why not reclaim your active lifestyle now? The advancements made in joint replacement surgery, including robotic options and the anterior hip approach, make this an ideal time to talk to an orthopedic surgeon to determine if a joint replacement could help.
New options with advanced technology
South Baldwin Regional Medical Center offers the robotic-assisted surgical approach to joint replacement.
The benefits of robotic-assisted surgery may include:
- Decreased damage to healthy tissue and
less scarring
- Less blood loss/decreased need for a
blood transfusion
- Less pain the first eight weeks after surgery
- A more natural-feeling knee function
How it works
Before surgery, a CT scan is taken to create a computerized 3D model of your hip or knee, allowing your physician to plan the placement and alignment of the joint implant. During surgery, the robotic arm uses the model to provide “real-time” measurements and visualization – allowing your surgeon to test and fine-tune placement and alignment. The robot also helps the surgeon very precisely customize the fit of the implant.
These advances are designed to improve the overall success of your new implant – helping to make it feel and function as close as possible to your own healthy joints.
